In the following months from that day, you watched with great melancholy the blossoming relationship between Levi and Petra. You knew that she had a thing for him, but you never could’ve guessed that he returned those feelings. It cut you deep.
You were still miserable, your heart ached excruciatingly. But each and every day you would force a smile to your face, just to assure Levi that you approved of the love he shared with another. You didn’t approve though, no, far from it. As time went by you continued to pen up resentment for Petra from taking Levi from you. You were Levi’s best and oldest friend, you were there, experiencing his life as a thug then witnessing his rise to Humanity’s Strongest first-hand. It was you who kept him grounded when he lost Isabel and Farlan, it was you who carried him through all these years.
So why, why was the world so cruel as to think that you did not belong together?
You watched the wedding – not from a distance, no, that would be far too kind. You were a bridesmaid, Petra’s bridesmaid, and for the passing months you were forced to assist her in her wedding ceremony trifles. How many times you fought the urge to crash the wedding, you had lost count.
The eyes Levi had for Petra as she walked down the aisle, her belly grown with the child that would soon be brought into this world, her white dress gracefully billowing behind her, the bouquet of roses she held in her grasp. He loved her, you could see that. How desperately you wanted him to have those eyes for you. But he wouldn’t, you could see that too. You put a hand to your chest to steady the beating of your rapid heart.
The year that followed had done nothing for you. You thought the wedding would be the worst of it, but oh how wrong you were.
A few months after the wedding, the child had been born. Twin children. A boy and a girl. You didn’t know their names – despite how many times Levi told you about them in their early lives you didn’t care to remember.
As the children grew older Levi and you had become less active. You barely spoke, and soon you faded from his subconscious. Now all that he ever saw was his family, and his darling wife. He had forgotten you, and replaced your friendship with people he had met through Petra’s family, or any others who had been privileged enough to start their own. It made you sick to your core. He left you alone, in the dark.
As you stood on the ledge of the building, you looked to the sky, as if hoping that there was some almighty entity that could save you from this hell on earth. The tears streamed down your face, which had become all but a pale shell of what it once was, and you waited for a sign. Any sign. Anything to show that there was something still worth living for.
“Please… Tell me,” you whispered, your faint words being carried away by the wind.
There was no answer. You didn’t know why you expected any less.
You closed your eyes and thought of him. Levi. The man you had shared an unbreakable bond with, an invincible friendship, an unrequited love. You wished that he would love you back, but it you knew it’d just be that. Just a wish. He didn’t want you, he didn’t see you. All he ever saw was Petra.
So you took a step from the edge…
And you jumped.

I hurried outside as I was late and stood between Connie and Armin, I had 1,60 meters unlike my mother who had 1,70 or my father who had 1,75. I always wished to have 1,70 because I really hated being short and short people are made fun of.
